Establishing a Regional Entry Point for AI and Data Analytics Careers
Context
As demand for AI and data analytics roles increased, community colleges in the Bay Area began expanding related programs. However, these efforts were not presented as a cohesive system. Students saw isolated courses instead of career paths, and employers had limited visibility into how training connected to real roles.
Challenge
The initiative needed a way to translate a complex, multi-college effort into something usable. Career pathways were not clearly defined, program information was scattered, and there was no shared interface to communicate how AI and data analytics training mapped to actual jobs. Without that clarity, engagement from both students and employers was limited.
Action
We worked with Laney College and BACCC to operationalize the Artificial Intelligence Data Analytics (AIDA) initiative as a clear, structured system. Work included:
- Defining career-aligned pathways across AI and data analytics, anchored in specific job roles rather than programs
- Designing and building a public-facing website that acts as the primary access point to the initiative
- Organizing content to reflect how users think about outcomes, including roles like AI Engineer, Data Scientist, and Business Intelligence
- Embedding industry context by surfacing key partners and platforms used in the field
- Creating a site structure that colleges can extend without breaking consistency or requiring ongoing technical support
Outcome
The AIDA platform provides a clear, usable interface for a previously diffuse initiative. It translates multiple programs into defined career pathways, improves visibility for industry alignment, and gives students a direct way to understand how to enter AI and data roles. The system supports ongoing expansion while maintaining a consistent structure across participating colleges.
